Elizabeth A. Yu, Ph.D., LP
Welcome
Choosing to begin therapy is an important step toward taking care of yourself, your relationships, and the life you want to build. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and comfortable being your authentic self—while also helping you make meaningful changes.
I’m a clinical psychologist in private practice in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I work with adults navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, perfectionism, stress, and major life transitions. I particularly enjoy working with people who are accustomed to holding themselves to high standards and may feel overwhelmed by the pressure to “have it all together.” Therapy can offer an opportunity to slow down, better understand yourself, and move toward a life that feels more meaningful and manageable.
I also provide Integrative Couples Therapy for couples who want to strengthen their relationship, improve communication, and develop a deeper sense of connection. Whether you are working through a specific challenge or simply want to build a healthier relationship, I believe therapy can help couples better understand one another and create lasting change.
I received my M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan and completed my clinical Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan Psychological Clinic. I bring evidence-based approaches to my work while tailoring therapy to each person’s unique needs, goals, and experiences.
Most importantly, I see therapy as a collaborative process. My role is to help you gain clarity, develop new skills, navigate challenges, and create meaningful change, while tailoring our work to your unique needs, goals, and experiences.
Frequently Asked Questions - Some questions you may have before getting started:
1. What can I expect from therapy?
Therapy is a collaborative process, and the focus will depend on your goals and what brings you to therapy. Sessions may involve developing a deeper understanding of patterns that are contributing to distress, learning and practicing new skills, exploring difficult emotions or experiences, and identifying meaningful changes you would like to make. My approach is warm, engaged, and evidence-based, while allowing our work to be tailored to you.
2. Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes, I offer both virtual and in-person appointments.
3. Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and do not participate directly with insurance companies. I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn more about your specific benefits.
4. What is your approach to OCD treatment ?
For clients experiencing OCD, I incorporate evidence-based approaches such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, goals, and readiness for change.
5. How do I know if we're a good fit?
Finding a therapist who feels like the right fit is an important part of the process. I offer an initial consultation so we can talk about what brings you to therapy, what you'e hoping to work on, and whether my approach and areas of expertise are a good match for your needs.
